Entry Deadline for 2007 festival:

  1. All entry forms must be completed in full on an official entry form.  (photocopied entry forms are acceptable)  Entries must show the following:  mailing address of competitor; telephone number; date of birth; name of selection, as well as opus number and movements, if applicable, composer’s name and performance time; teacher’s name, address and phone number (if applicable). Entry forms that do not include the necessary data will be returned.
  2. Complete a separate entry form for each class entered.  Please indicate on each form all classes that you have entered. Deadline for entries:  July 31st, 2007.

  3. Entries must be received on or before July 31st, 2007.  Entries postmarked after this date will be returned.  A cheque for fees must accompany the entry otherwise the entry will not be processed.  Faxed entries will not be accepted. 
  4. No entry will be refunded unless the festival entry cap has been reached. 
  5. Please mail your entries as soon as possible to avoid disappointment, as after the time allotted for the festival has been filled the festival will be unable to accommodate any further entries. 
  6. All competitors must state date of birth on the entry form.  Where age limits are specified and where classes are graded in ages, i.e. 8 years and under, 10 years and under, etc the accepted age for such classes shall be as of September 1st, 2007.
  7. Length of time of performance must be stated on the entry form for programming purposes.  This should be stated in minutes and seconds.  i.e. 1:12
  8. Time limits will be strictly adhered to and enforced.  The competitor must stop when time limit is reached or disqualification will result. 
  9. Competitors may elect to enter one grade level “only” higher in any repertoire class in the same division.  For example, a competitor may enter a Gr. 5 Baroque class and a Gr. 6 Classical class, but may not enter a Gr. 5 Baroque class and a Gr. 7 Classical class. 
  10. Competitors must elect which class to enter, subject to grade limits, and shall not be eligible to compete in another class in the same section, but may enter classes of a different type.  For example, a competitor may enter Gr. 9 Baroque and Gr. 10 Classical but may not enter Gr. 9 Baroque and Gr. 10 Baroque.    
  11. Music must be provided for the adjudicator and accompanist.  This music must be original or an authorized copy from the publisher.  Photocopying music is illegal.  Violation of this rule will result in disqualification.
  12. Own Selection is deemed to mean “One only Solo Number”.
  13. Competitors who do not comply with choice of music of the named period will be disqualified.
  14. Competitors who do not comply with the grade level in which he or she has entered may forfeit eligibility for an award.  Please see the specific rules section of each discipline for accepted Conservatory Syllabus grade guidelines.
  15. Contestants in the Piano, Strings and Vocal Divisions should memorize their chosen selections but if they must use music, they must be prepared to lose marks, if the adjudicator so judges.  Memorization is optional in ensemble work and in the Woodwind Division.
  16. Entry forms, which only advise selections to be performed, are TBA (to be announced) will be automatically rejected.  A change of selection cannot be made after the entry is accepted or announced as a change on the stage at performance time.  The performer will be disqualified. 
  17. In all classes, once a composition has been used, the same competitor may not use it for a period of two consecutive years.
  18. No competitor may perform the same selection in more than one class.
  19. No competitor will be allowed to perform apart from the class he or she has entered.
  20. Competitors must provide their own accompanists.  The Festival assumes no responsibility for arranging or supplying accompanists.  The festival will not adjust classes due to accompanists scheduling conflicts. 
  21. The adjudicator, at his or her discretion, may stop any performance at any time.
  22. The piano is the instrument to be used for all selections requiring accompaniment.  The use of acoustic guitar is also acceptable.  Taped accompaniment is not allowed
  23. Please notify the Festival of any changes in the address of the competitor or teacher.  The Festival assumes no responsibility for lost entry forms.
  24. Class schedules will appear in the Programme.  The competitor’s teacher will be sent a notification of their students class times and dates.  In the case where a competitor has no teacher the competitor will be sent notification. 
  25. Each competitor is required to pre-purchase one Official Programme, listing class schedules, along with his or her entry(s) or one per family if there is more than one competitor in the family.
  26. Programmes will be available for pick up only approximately two weeks prior to the start of the festival.  Teachers will be notified of where and when to pick up programmes.  In the case of a competitor without a teacher, the competitor will be notified.

procedures

  1. Upon arrival, the participant should register at the reception desk before their class begins.
  2. A participant who is not ready to perform at the designated time will be disqualified.
  3. The Festival will not reschedule a participant to an alternate time should they be late for or unable to attend their class.
  4. No competitor, accompanist or audience member may approach the adjudicator at any time. This may result in disqualification. Necessary questions from the competitor must be directed to the adjudicator’s assistant or to the Executive Director.
  5. Immediately following the class, music, adjudication sheets, and certificates must be claimed. The Festival assumes no responsibility for music, certificates or adjudication sheets left at the event.
  6. No one is permitted to enter or leave the hall while a competitor is performing. The audience must remain silent during performances.Photographing, videotaping or recording any performance is prohibited.
